REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANJARMASIN -- Professor Nornasie Darlan of the Palangkaraya University (Unpar) in Central Kalimantan has opined that it was time for Indonesia to return to the State Policy Guidelines (GBHN).

"It is time to reinstate the GBHN since during the New Order era, the process of governance was controlled through it, and the development was purposeful through the implementation of the Five-Year Development Plan (Repelita)," Darlan remarked here on Wednesday.

According to the professor, the GBHN offered a clear guideline for the direction of development in Indonesia to achieve equitable prosperity and justice.

He further added that the GBHN can serve as a guideline for each institution in the country as it is now known as the National Long Term Development Plan (RPJPN).

Darlan noted that the content of the GBHN remained relevant to the current direction of development, but now, it had become increasingly difficult to discuss the GBHN, a document that details the direction and objectives of the state for five years.

Under the then president Soharto, the GBHN was passed by the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and was implemented by the president during his five-year term.
