REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A number of Indonesian Muslim leaders would be sent as government envoys to Saudi Arabia and Iran to mediate the conflict between the two countries.
"I think in the near future, Foreign Ministry has prepared a team to Saudi Arabia and Iran," said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Luhut Binsar Panjaitan on Tuesday (12/1).
Former Chief of Presidential Staff said the envoy's departure depended on confirmation of the two countries to receive envoys from Indonesia. Luhut considered Indonesia as country with largest Muslim population in the world, has a significant role as a mediator for the two countries that are in conflict.
"We see that Indonesia as the largest Muslim country could certainly play a significant role to prevent conflict between them," said Luhut.
He added, the conflict between the two countries was not only about a religion but also conflict of interest related to economy.
