Three illegal fishing vessels from Malaysia destroyed

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BENGKALIS -- Bengkalis District Court burned three fishing vessels belonging to Malaysia who have been proven in court stealing fish in the waters of Bengkalis, Riau Province.

"Destruction of the evidence of three vessels owned by Malaysians was according to decision of Bengkalis District Court," said Head of Information, Law and Public Relations of Bengkalis District Court, Mukhzan, in Pekanbaru, Tuesday (7/1).

The execution was conducted on Thursday morning around 10:00 am. He explained, the Bengkalis District Court decision was issued on 9th July 2015 with number of decision No. 289/PID.SUS/2015/PN.BKS. In the case,10 Malaysians were convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison and a fine of Rp 2 billion.

Mukhzan explained that the three vessels were arrested by the police in 2015 due to illegal fishing in Indonesian waters. One of the vessels was vessel JHF 7039 type with blue and red color with 100 pieces of netting "bottom".

Then, there was vessel JHF 6489 type with 100 pieces of netting "bottom" and a speed boat with hull number NSS 691 with one unit of fishing gear.
