REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) said the regulation requiring publicly listed companies to float at least 7.5 percent of their shares would be effective in January, 2016.

"Though it is to be effective only in 2016, a number of listed companies such as HM Sampoerna Tbk (HMSP) and Surya Toto Indonesia Tbk (TOTO), already increased the portion of their floating shares through rights issue in 2015," BEI President Director Tito Sulistio said here on Wednesday.

Tito said the two listed companies raised fresh fund totaling Rp20.91 trillion from the corporate actions.

Altogether there were 20 listed companies launching right issues in 2015 raising a total of Rp45.57 trillion in fresh fund, he said.

He said the free float regulation was included in the decision of the BEI board of directors No. Kep-00001/BEI/01-2014.

Earlier the BEI's corporate appraisal director Samsul Hidayat called on all listed companies to take part in improving the market liquidity by complying with the free float regulation.

"In principle, we want all listed companies to fully comply with the regulation to increase the number of traded shares, therefore, improving the market liquidity and reducing idle shares," he added.
