Biak district wants to open state university

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BIAK -- A legislator asks the district administration of Biak, Papua , to accelerate the process of licensing the opening of a state university in Biak to make the city an education center in Papua.

The district of Biak plans to open a new state university called Kamasan State University.

"The opening of the Kamasan State University in Biak is highyl strategic to turn out skilled human resources in Pap[ua," Izaak Kapisa, chairman of the Golkar faction at the regional legislative assembly, said here on Wednesday.

He said the district administration and related agencies should be serious in bringing to reality the plan and the ministry of research and high educational institute should immediately issue the operational license of the Kamasan state university.

He said the availability of location for the university campus is expected to contribute to accelerating the process toward the opening of the university in Biak.

"Biak would be a place for higher education for senior high school graduates in the area of the gulf of Cenderawasih including the regencies of Yapen Kepulauan, Waropen, Supiori," he said.

The budget for education in Biak is set at Rp100 billion in 2016.
