REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- DPR's Etchic Council (MKD) held a hearing case of alleged use of name of the state leaders in PT Freeport's contract extension. This hearing presented Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.
In the hearing, Luhut recited five initial statement while attending a hearing on the case of demand for Freeport stocks, which allegedly conducted by Chairman of House of Representatives (DPR) Setya Novanto.
The first statement, he asserted that he has a duty to provide assessment to Indonesian President, including study of PT. Freeport Indonesia. It was performed by Luhut, as Chief of Presidential Staff, whether President Joko Widodo requested him or not.
The second statement, the President has given clear guidance that assessment given by Luhut as Chief of Presidential Staff should refer to the law.
The third statement, Luhut admitted that he sent several memos, particularly about contract extension of PT. Freeport Indonesia, that it could only be done in two years or at least by 2019.
The fourth statement, Luhut said President Joko Widodo has repeatedly stressed that the contract extension should be done with five requirements, which essentially should benefit for Indonesia.
The fifth statement, Luhut stated contract extension must be accompanied by the development of Papua, local content, royalties, divestment and processing industries. Lastly, Luhut stressed that President Joko Widodo never violated the Constitution or laws, including the Mining Law that regulates contract extension of PT. Freeport Indonesia.
"The explanation was during my role as Chief of Presidential Staff and as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. It is important to emphasis my position," he said.
