REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi stated that Indonesia has helped capacity building program of human resources (HR) for 1,338 Palestinians under New Asian–African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) during 2008-2013.
"Under NAASP program for capacity building of Palestine, Indonesia has initiated 128 programs and trained 1,338 Palestinians," said Retno in the opening of the "International Conference on Jerusalem" in Jakarta, Monday (14/12).
Human resource development programs and technical cooperation by Indonesia covered several fields, namely small and medium enterprises, finance and taxation, microfinance, agriculture, diplomatic training on a regular basis, archives, health, energy, women's empowerment, democratization and good governance, industry, conservation and restoration of monuments and sites, construction, social, and textiles.
In addition to providing training programs, Indonesia also actively participated in Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) as host in 2014, and would attend a further meeting in 2016 in Japan.
"This is consistent attitude of Indonesia to support Palestinians," Retno added.
When hosted the 60th Asian-African Conference (KAA), in April 2015, Indonesia and other conference participants produced a Declaration on Palestine. The document contained support for Palestinian people to gain true independence.
In multilateral forum, Indonesia was among countries that expressed full support for 67/19 General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) on 29th November 2012, regarding the inclusion of Palestine as a non-member state of the UN. Indonesia also supported the raising of flag of Palestine as an observer state at the UN Headquarters on 30th September 2015.
"The flag-raising was not only symbolic but also important step toward permanent membership of Palestine in the UN. It is a universal recognition to legitimate national aspirations of Palestinian people," said Retno.
