Surabaya prepares to welcome Asian Games 2018

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- Department of Youth and Sports (Dispora) Surabaya planned to build additional sports facilities next year. The facilities are futsal courts in some locations such as in Sentra Ikan Bulak, Colombo, Ronggolawe, and Pondok Benowo Indah.

Head of Sports and Achievement, Eddy Santoso, said Dispora's mission was to build futsal courts in every village in Surabaya.

"If there are two courts in a village, it is no problem. So that the public, especially young people and children, can exercise regularly and do not think to do negative things," said Eddy, Thursday (3/12).

Moreover, he added, Dispora was also being focused on completion of construction of softball courts, including jogging track, which was located on Jalan Dharmawangsa.

The construction was currently 90 percent finished. Dispora also targeted the construction of softball fields could be completed and be used for Asian Games 2018.

Furthermore, Eddy explained, another project was the work of international racing circuit in Bung Tomo Stadium. Construction plan of 1,100 meter long race track would begin next year and be completed in 2018.

"It requires Rp 192 billion for total development. This project will be done gradually and Surabaya City Government has completed Detail Engineering Design (DED)," he continued.

This year, Dispora has built 27 futsal courts, 13 volleyball courts, eight basketball courts, three climbing wall, two badminton courts, and a tennis court.
