REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG -- 'Siti' movie might not be well known by the public because it has never been played in Indonesian cinema. Even so, 'Siti' managed to give a new twist to Indonesian film industry by coming out as the Best Film in Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) 2015.
Producer of 'Siti', Ifa Isfansyah expressed his grateful that a movie with budget Rp 150 million, got tremendous appreciation by FFI. After becoming nominator for five nominations in FFI 2015, 'Siti' won three nominations.
"At first, we didn't think our little movie can be a nominator in FFI. It's a tremendous appreciation," said Ifa, in Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Monday (23/11) morning.
'Siti' was not only appreciated in Indonesia, but also in foreign countries. 'Siti' made it into nearly 20 international film festivals and won four international awards.
Although 'Siti' already won numerous international awards, Ifa saw FFI awards as a highlight for 'Siti'. The award showed that 'Siti' was also appreciated in its own country.
'Siti's success became the Best Film of FFI 2015, was expected to inspire filmmakers in Indonesia that a low budget movie also have equal opportunity to compete with other big movies.
Director and screenwriter of 'Siti', Eddie Cahyono, said 'Siti' production process was fairly fast, just in six days. All parties involved, are willing to make 'Siti' into a movie that can touch the hearts of many people.
Eddie admitted that he spent a week to make a story for 'Siti'. The story then turned into scenario in two months.
"Through 'Siti', I want women to have courage to choose," Eddie hoped.
In FFI 2015, 'Siti' managed to get into five nominations, namely Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenwriter, Best Cinematography Director, and Best Music Playground. Of the five nominations, 'Siti' then took home three awards through Best Music Playground, Best Original Screenwriter, and Best Film.
