Matahora Airport in Wakatobi awarded Best Airport 2015

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KENDARI -- Matahora Airport in Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, received "The Best Airport Award" 2015 from an air transport magazine. Regent of Wakatobi, Hugua, said the award from the magazine was received by manager of Matahora Airport in Jakarta 17th November 2015 ago.

"I do not understand why Matahora Airport is awarded as best airport by the air transport magazine with Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Tourism," he said, Friday (21/11).

Based on explanation of Chairman of the Jury, Hery Bakti Kumai, and Airport Director of Ministry of Transportation, Agus Santosa, Matahora Airport won 'The Best Airport Award' for implementing open management and providing excellent service to the passengers.

"Also we assessed the cleanliness of the airport, especially the toilet," Hery added.

According to Hugua, Matahora Airport was built by using regional budget of Wakatobi and started its operation in 2009. In the beginning, Matahora Airport runway length was only 1,600 meters with a width of 30 meters, but now, the length of the runway has reached 2,100 meters.

"Then, since 17th November 2015, the management of Matahora Airport is done by Ministry of Transportation," he explained.

He added, after the airport was taken over by Ministry of Transportation, then the improvement of airport facilities has become authority of Ministry of Transportation.
