Saung Angklung Udjo to perform in Paris

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PARIS -- Saung Angklung Udjo team commemorated five years of angklung (Sundanese music instrument) had been named as world cultural heritage by UNESCO. The team was scheduled to perform at Odeon Theatre de l'Europe on Tuesday (17/11) tomorrow, also to commemorate UN's anniversary in Paris, France.

A total of 30 members of Saung Angklung Udjo art team led by Sam Udjo arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport on Sunday (15/11) morning. They were welcomed by Ambassador of UNESCO Fauzi Soelaiman and his wife, Bonita Soelaiman at Central Hotel Paris, Eiffel Tower, Sunday night.

"Thank God we have arrived safely in Paris and did not experience any difficulty, also during the examination of immigration," said Sam Udjo.

According to Sam Udjo, once they felt worry to perform in Paris. Therefore, the news of the terrorist attacks in Paris that was broadcast in Indonesia was quite horrific, and many parents were concerned because most of the art team of Saung Angklung Udjo aged between 13-17 years old.

"I want angklung can perform in Paris, where there are the headquarters of UNESCO. UNESCO has established angklung as World Cultural Heritage (The Intangible Heritage)," explained Ambassador of UNESCO Fauzi Soelaiman.
