REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GIANYAR -- PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) gave Rp 2.5 billion to support a Persipura Jayapura football club that competed in Sudirman Cup Tournament 2015 at the Captain Dipta Stadium, Gianyar, Bali, Saturday (14/11).
The support was given by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by VP Corporate Communications Manager PTFI Riza Patama and Persipura's Manager Rudy Masuwi in Kuta, Bali, Friday (13/11).
"The aid is aimed at improving the club in order to give great performance again in the prestigious championship event," said President of Freeport Indonesia, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, after the signing of the MoU.
He said PTFI support for the participation of Persipura in Sudirman Cup tournament 2015 in Bali was in order to strengthen the sustainability of PTFI support for the club. The Rp 2.5 billion was for operational cost of the club in competing with other football clubs from all over Indonesia.
Maroef stated, PTFI became the main sponsor of Persipura for the past five years since 2012. PTFI was very proud of the performance of Persipura in competition both locally and regionally.
In 2013, Persipura won the Indonesian Super League (LSI) for the fourth-time. In 2014 Persipura managed to reach the semi final round in regional competition of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup and also became runner-up of LSI.
"Persipura have given pride to Papua. Achievements of Persipura were as a four-time champion in the Indonesian Super League and 4 major club in AFC Cup in 2014 become example and evidence that Papua has the potential to be proud of," he explained.
He was optimistic that Persipura could achieve remarkable achievement in Sudirman Cup tournament i2015 as a gift for the supporters who have been long waiting for the presence of team pride at national level tournament.
