REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CAIRO -- The Islamic State (IS/ISIS) claimed responsibility for the crash of a Russian plane on Saturday in Egypt's Sinai, which killed more than 200 people on board, in a statement posted online.
The Sinai-based group "Sinai State" that had announced loyalty to the IS said in a statement posted on Twitter its militants managed to target the Russian plane and killed all passengers.
It said the attack was in revenge for Russia's military operations in Syria.
A video released by the group showed that a plane was suddenly caught on fire and fell down, but the video cannot be verified for the moment.
The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thanion Saturday sent a cable of condolences to President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, expressing sincere condolences and sympathy on the victims of the Russian passenger airplane crash in the Egyptian town of El-Arish.

HRH the Premier sent a similar cable to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, expressing deepest condolences in the aftermath of the tragic plane crash.
