REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in one year, already sank 107 illegal fishing vessels which had been operating in Indonesian waters.
"With the sinking of six vessels in Batam today, there was a total of 107 vessels that were already sunk," said Director General of Marine Resources and Fisheries, Asep Burhanudin, in Batam, Sunday (31/10).
It was starting from October 2014 until the end of October 2015. While a number of other illegal fishing vessels were waiting for the determination of sinking.
The illegal fishing vessels sunk consisted of 39 Vietnam vessels, 34 Philippines vessels, 21 Thailand vessels, six Malaysian vessels, four Indonesian vessels, two Papua New Guinea vessels, and a Chinese vessel.
"The vessels are conducting illegal fishing in Indonesian waters, either in the western, central, and eastern," he added.
The sinking determination was based on PN Batam No.01 to No.06/Pen.Pid/2015/PN.BTM dated 19th October 2015.
