REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Head of Data, Information, and Public Relations of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, stated that the local governments did not put serious attention in disaster prevention.

I could be seen in budget for Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). There was only 0.02 percent of budget allocations that could be used for disaster.

"In fact, the ideal budget for disaster risk management in the budgets at least one percent," he said, Wednesday (28/10).

He explained, Central Kalimantan provincial government even was not allocating budget for land and forest fires prevention. In fact, Central Kalimantan was a region that was always attacked by land and forest fires.

Every year, forest fires always happened. Although there was not el-nino, forests and land in Sumatra and Kalimantan would still be burned.

"Therefore we said forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan as a result of omission," Sutopo added.
