REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited President Barack Obama to develop a digital economy, given Indonesia has huge potential in that field. President Jokowi, in a joint press statement with President Obama in Oval Office of White House, Washington DC, said that Indonesia was one of the countries with largest digital economy.
"I set digital technology as a priority of Indonesia. I invited the United States to cooperate in digital economy," he said, Monday (26/10)
Jokowi said that digital economy was the third issues that was discussed with Obama in a meeting that lasted 1 hour 10 minutes. On that occasion, he thanked President Obama, who had welcomed him and the delegation very well.
"Indonesia welcomes 'partnership strategy'. It is a symbol of increased cooperation between Indonesia and the United States," he added.
According to him, Indonesia is the largest Muslim country and is the largest democracy in the world. Indonesian Islam is a moderate, modern and tolerant.
"We believe that Islam in Indonesia is able to play an important role in maintaining democracy and pluralism in against radicalism and terrorism," he explained.
