Mt Barujari erupts, hundreds of climbers in Mt Rinjani evacuated

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM -- Officers of Mount Rinjani National Park evacuated hundreds of climbers in Mount Rinjani to safe places, not to affected by eruption of Mount Barujari on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara.

"From the data we have collected, there are 136 foreign and 33 domestic tourists since yesterday and today, not including tour guides and climbers from Senaru, North Lombok," said Head of Sembalun Resort, Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR), Zulfahri, in Mataram, Sunday (25/10).

Mount Barujari with a height from 2,296 to 2,376 meters above sea level, on the east side of Mount Rinjani caldera, erupted on Sunday (25/10), around 10.45 pm. Until today, there were still smoke and dust on a small scale.

Mount Barujari also referred to as a child of Mount Rinjani, as it formed in the area of ​​Lake Segara Anak of Mount Rinjani in 1944. From the information obtained, most climbers evacuated, were in Lake Segara Anak which is relatively close to Mount Barujari.

 

The climbers were evacuated by officers through Torean, North Lombok, as it was considered safe from the effects of smoke and dust caused by the eruption of Mount Barujari. While, Sembalun in East Lombok and Senaru in North Lombok were not safe.

Head of Senaru Resort of TNGR, Budi Soesmardi, said 31 foreign tourists made a climb through Senaru Post , North Lombok. They came from the United States, Germany, Portugal, Australia, Belgium, and Vietnam.

He revealed, 10 members of evacuation team had to be around the ​​Lake Segara Anak before the volcano erupted in order to carry out the task of monitoring and extinguishing fires.
