REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- The regency of Sukabumi in West Java will soon have three units of wind energy generated power plant (PLTB) to be built in the southern part of the regency.

The project has been in the phase of feasibility study. The three power plants will be built in the sub-districts of Simpenan, Waluran and Ciemas.

"The projects are feasible in the three sub-districts as they have good wind quality wind with a speed of 6-8 knot on the average with a maximum speed of 25 knot per second," head of the energy and mineral resource office of the Sukabumi regency Adi Purnomo said here on Monday.

The investor is a company from the United States and the project will cost around US$1 million.

Around 100 units of windmills would be built in the three sub-districts and a windmill could generate 2.5 megawatts of electricity.

If the project could be completed as scheduled, there would be no blackout in Sukabumi.

Sukabumi could even supply power to the Java-Bali interconnection, Adi said.

The project is also expected to contribute Rp3 billion to the regional income of the district every year, he added.

"If the PLTB projects that would have a capacity of 250 MW would be completed Sukabumi would be the first to have power plant using wind renewable energy in the country," he said.
