4.7 magnitude earthquake strikes Jayapura

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- An earthquake measuring 4.7 Richter scale struck Jayapura, Papua, Wednesday (7/10). The quake occurred at 10:47 local time.

Data from Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency of Jayapura, stated that the quake was felt in Jayapura and Sentani, was located in 62 LS-140.41 BT, or about 12 km from southwest of Jayapura District. The epicenter of the quake was located at a depth of 20 km.

Some residents were scrambled out of the house, because the quake felt quite big and long. There was no report of damage or  casualties from the quake.

"We did not dare to remain in the house or in a room," said Ida, a residents of Jayapura, which brought two of her four children to the outdoors.
