REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Based on geographical diversity, Indonesia became the third biggest country as a coffee producer in the world. This was conveyed by Minister of Industry, Saleh Husin.

"Indonesia is still under Brazil and Vietnam," he said, in a declaration of International Coffee Day in Indonesia at Ministry of Industry, Jakarta, Thursday (1/10).

He explained that productivity of Brazil was ranked first reached 2,000 per hectare in a year, while Vietnam is in second position with productivity of 1,500 per hectare in a year.

"Vietnam has productivity of 1,500,  but we are just 700 per hectare in a year. This has to be developed and because of this also Indonesian farmers' income is still lacking," he explained.

He added that one of the efforts that must be made to develop Indonesian coffee is to get used to buy coffee variants in accordance to the name of the region.

"I invite you to buy a coffee in classy brands, such as Gayo coffee of Aceh, Sumatra Arabica, or Bajawa NTT. With this culture, our coffee sales will definitely increase," he said.
