REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- Domestic and international shipping from Batam, Riau Islands Province, on Tuesday (29/9) afternoon, was disturbed by smoke. I was caused by the visibility which was under 500 meters.
"This is the command of head office. All ship may not sail because the visibility is very bad," said Head of General Port of Telaga Punggur, Erwin Sjafrizal, in Batam, Tuesday (29/9).
He said, Head of the Port of Batam, Gajah Rooseno, already visited all the ports in Batam. He instructed that all shipping were postponed until the smoke thinned.
Currently, he said, visibility in Batam waters was only about 200 meters. It was far from the normal limit of 1.5 nautical miles.
"All ports are lame. All ships are also stacked in Telaga Punggur, Sekupang, Harbour Bay, and Batam Centre," he said.
Thick smoke began to occurred in Batam on Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning until afternoon, the condition worsened. On Tuesday morning, Hang Nadim International Airport Batam was also closed for several hours.
