REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Surabaya City Agriculture Office will soon conduct an impromptu inspection of several places selling sacrificial animals ahead of Day of Sacrifice to ensure that they are healthy and free from disease.
Surabaya has hundreds of places used to sell sacrificial animals including cows and goats, Head of the Agriculture Office Joestamadji said here on Wednesday.
"We will come to the hundreds of places to check the antemortem health condition of the cows and goats," he said.
He said the Agriculture Office is waiting for a report from each sub-district on the places used to sell sacrificial animals.
To conduct the impromptu inspection, the office will deploy its 30 personnel who will team up with officers of sub-districts, villages and the school of veterinary of Surabaya-based Airlangga University (Unair), he said.
The inspection will be conducted for five days in several sub-districts in Surabaya, he said.
"This activity is part of our efforts to supervise the sale of sacrificial animals, with the aim of checking the condition of the sacrificial animals," he said.
He said the antemortem checks of the sacrificial animals cover teeth, mouth and other essential organs.
