REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOREANG -- Discharge of water in irrigation areas of Bandung Regency, especially Ciwidey river, remained 30 percent, due to drought. There was a total of 36 thousand hectares of irrigation areas in Bandung.

Head of Department of Water Resources, Mining and Energy of Bandung Regency, Kawaludin, said despite there was depreciation of 30 percent, but that did not mean the rest of the water could not be used.

"In order to optimize the residual water that was already shrinking, we do sleigh and dam shift mechanisms," he said, Monday (14/9).

If the two ways were not used, then the drainage water will spread everywhere. It could make people fought to obtain water supplies.

Sleigh shift mechanism, was a way to schedule the distribution of water to a large number of agricultural lands. For example, a rice field was given 5 hours to get waters and others rice fields also get another five hours.

He claimed to have coordinated with several groups of farmers in Bandung Regency to maximize the water supply.

If the shrinking of water discharge continued to occur, the Department under a coordination with Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Bandung, claimed to prepare a strategy, that was the procurement of pumping. He added, there was now prepared 18 pumps that can be given to the farmers.

He said that the supply of water was coming from Ciwidey river. From the river, then the waters were flowed into three irrigation flow, namely Cibeureum, Leuwi Kuya, and Leuwi Kuray.
