REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Maritime industry is a strategic industry in Indonesia, because its position can determine the network distribution of goods and services from and to foreign countries. Head of Economic Research Center, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Agus Eko Nugroho, said equitable development in all parts of Indonesia needs to be supported by infrastructure development in maritime sector.
"Level of development of maritime industry determines efficiency of economy in Indonesia," said Agus, Wednesday (9/9).
Various maritime issues and other issues, such as demographic, social protection programs, and food diversification still become major problems for development in Indonesia. Economic Researcher of LIPI, Zamrono, added that logistics costs in Indonesia are still quite high. It indicated inefficient in logistics sector.
"The implication economy becomes uncompetitive," he said.
Indonesia under President Jokowi's governmental, started to build maritime industry to make Indonesia as World Maritime Axis. However, the government should accept the limited state budgets.
Private sectors also have less interested in maritime industry. Cooperation between countries is considered to be one of solutions to solve various problems in each country.
