REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) said that Indonesian people should not be allergic to democracy. It was because democracy can lead Indonesia to become powerful country.
"Our dream is Indonesia can be a powerful country in 2045," SBY said, in Presidential Lecture at National Resilience Institute building, Tuesday (8/9).
According to SBY, it is impossible if Indonesia want to become a developed country in an instant way. It takes at least 30 years to 70 years to become in top 10 countries in the world. Indonesia must be strong, stable and mature in a democracy. Indonesia must also be able to create an advanced society.
"We have to give lessons about democracy, not only in the election and freedom," he added.
Moreover, constitutional sense should be embedded to Indonesian people and also understanding that anarchists are not part of democracy. Indonesia should have a strong economic fundamentals. In addressing the economic growth, Indonesia must also be fair.
"Do not give our economy to a free market, so that it will not depressed by investment and it can provide stimulus to economic growth," he said.
In society, a developed country also needs the nation's children who are educated and have a character who wants to go forward. Nation's children also must have a rational thought and continue to develop science and technology. Then, they have to have strong law enforcement and be a responsible community in creating social awareness.
