The four clusters of innovation are food, biomedicine, feed and biofertilizers, machinery and bioenergy.

Herry pointed out that the IPB has produced several intellectual works in the fields of agriculture, marine, and tropical biosciences.

"The IPB is a university that owns the highest number of commercial patents in Indonesia," he emphasized.

Until 2014, the cumulative number of patent-based inventions of IPB was 290, of which patents for 69 had been granted.

In addition, it has registered 13 IPB trademarks, of which four have been granted.

During the 2008-2014 period, 278 or 38.56 percent of the 721 products were selected by the Business Innovation Center (BIC) as the most prospective innovations of Indonesia.

In addition to patent-based innovations, the IPB has also marketed the commercial seeds of crop varieties, including papaya Callina known as Papaya California, chili CH3, and 3S paddy rice.

Some science-based innovations and IPB expertise being applied in industries include the bird flu vaccine Bird Close 5.1 manufactured by PT IPB Shigeta, and the production of biological material used for manufacturing the polio vaccine in cooperation with PT Bio Farma Tbk.

By commercializing innovations in the country, Herry pointed out that the IPB is expected to boost economic development in Indonesia.

"Indonesia can produce and export value-added products instead of raw materials," the rector remarked.

According to President Director of PT Bogor Life Science & Technology Meika Syahbana Rusli, the event is expected to strengthen the knowledge-based economy in Indonesia.

"The knowledge-based economy has high competitiveness. So, we want to affirm our relationship with the business world," he added.

The event, which was attended by about 300 investors from various fields, featured an exhibition of products, innovative presentations, and a business meeting.
