REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The public prosecutor of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) indicted that former Minister of Religious Affairs, Suryadharma Ali (SDA), has been detrimental to the financial state of Rp 27,283 billion and 17.967 million riyals. SDA corrupted costs of the pilgrimage and used the operational funds for private business.
"Adverse the state financial of Rp 27,283," said KPK prosecutor, Supardi, when reading the indictment at the Corruption Court, in Jakarta, Monday (31/8).
Supardi said SDA had enriched themselves. SDA had been charged with abusing authority to dispatch 180 Hajj Committee (PPIH) and seven companion of Amirul Hajj.
1,771 pilgrims who departed were not in appropriate queue number. He enriched accommodation providers in Saudi Arabia, namely 12 majmuah or consortium and five transit hotel.
For his actions, SDA was charged with Article 2, paragraph 1 or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Act No. 31 of 1999 as amended by Act No. 20 of 2001 on Corruption Eradication in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 1st Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
Responding to the charges of the prosecutor, Suryadharma assessed that the charges were very vague. He believed, his determination as a suspect by KPK was due to political interest.
"What I thought before that there was a political motive in setting me as a suspect," SDA said.
