7 killed by lightning in Northeast India

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NEW DELHI -- At least seven people were killed and 20 others injured when a lightning struck a boat on a river in the northeast Indian state of Assam Saturday, said local media.

The deadly incident took place at the River Beki when a thunderstorm hit it near Milanbazaar area of Barpeta district of the state, said Press Trust of India.

The incidents of lightning killing people often take place during India's monsoon season from June to October each year.

Nine persons were killed when lightning struck them in early June in the eastern state of Bihar's Aurangabad and Rohas districts.
