REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received the results of a feasibility study from the Chinese government for the Jakarta-Bandung fast train project.

"The president received Minister of National Development and Reform Commission of China Xu Shaoshi who delivered the results of a feasibility study conducted by Chinese companies to the Indonesian government," Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil noted during a joint press conference at the Presidential Palace Complex here on Monday.

Djalil remarked that the government had received the feasibility results and will study and arrive at a decision at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Minister Xu Shaoshi, who is acting as the Chinese president's envoy, noted that he met President Jokowi to submit the feasibility study report as promised.

"I have met the minister of planning/head of Bappenas, minister of state-owned enterprises, and coordinating minister for economic affairs, and tomorrow, I will meet the vice president and other officials," the Chinese minister revealed.

Minister Shaoshi pointed out that during the past eight months, the two heads of state have held three meetings to enhance cooperation.

"One of them is the Jakarta-Bandung fast train track project for which the agreement had been signed in March 2015," the Chinese minister stated.

Shaoshi noted that in April and June 2015, both had agreed on the framework, and the feasibility study results have been submitted to President Jokowi today.

He explained that the fast train line is about 150 kilometers long from Halim to Bandung and will also be connected to Gambir and the existing network.

"Later, there will be eight stations along the track, and the train speed would reach around 300 kilometers per hour," the Chinese minister stated as he mentioned about offering a more competitive price with a better proposal.

"We guarantee it can be completed in three years. The groundbreaking would be held in late August 2015, and the project would be completed in late 2018," he remarked.

Shaoshi also said that a joint venture of Indonesian-Chinese State-Owned Enterprises will be formed to manage the fast train project, in which Indonesia will hold 60 percent of the company's shares, and the rest will be held by China.

"We want to seriously share with Indonesia to realize a fast train network in the country," he stated.

Shaoshi also affirmed that hotels, housing apartments, and other facilities can be built at every station to create a growing area with a thriving economy.

"The fast train network can become profitable after five years of operations," Shaoshi added.
