Jokowi: Our economy top five in the world

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that economic growth of Indonesia is in top five of the world. Indonesia do not need to be pessimistic about the economic conditions.

"Our economy is in the big five in the world, so pessimism is wrong," the president said in Jakarta, Monday (10/8).

President said that the weakening of the stock market was not only happened in Indonesia, but also in many developed and developing countries.

"It's the consequences of the world economic slowdown. However, our economy is still in the top five in the world," he said.

Indonesian capital market has a huge potential because it was driven by national economy. With strong economic foundation, the Indonesian capital market was proved quite capable of reducing the global economic turmoil.

"Our stock markets is currently being weakened. That was also experienced by many other developing countries," he said.

He explained that the volatile of the stock market was often makes some investors nervous. However, prices can go up or down based on demand and supply.
