REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Pekanbaru, stated that hail phenomenon can be potentially occurred in Riau. Hail possibly strikes Riau in the transition season in mid of August 2015.
“Actually the phenomenon is difficult to predict where it will be happened, because it is so fast,” said BMKG officials, Ardhitama, Friday (7/8).
Earlier on 3rd August 2015, a report said that large hails occurred in some areas in Rokan Hulu. It caused damage of several houses. The Disaster Management Agency of Rokan Hulu reported that there were seven houses damaged by the incident.
Ardhitama explained, the hail phenomenon was usually caused by cumulonimbus clouds which are as high as over 40 thousand feet. This was supported by the warm air temperature.
“Entering the transition season in mid August in few days, heavy rain, strong winds, lightning, and hail are expected to occur frequently,” he added.
