REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Pekanbaru, stated that most of Pekanbaru area was free from smog. It was because the rain kept pouring down the forest in the last few days.
“The visibility was already normal from this morning. There was no more smog,” said BMKG Pekanbaru official, Ardhitama, Friday (7/8).
Ardhitama explained that in Pekanbaru, the visibility in Friday morning was above five kilometers. Meanwhile in several areas, including Rengat and Pelalawan, the visibility was above three kilometers.
“Lower visibility was caused by mist, not smog,” he added.
He said that there were no more hot spots in Riau. While earlier on Thursday (6/8), there was still a hot spot in Meranti Island. However the fire accuracy rate was under 70 percent.
The rain that was always pouring the forest in high intensity can reduce the forest fires.
“Indeed, most areas of Riau are still at dry season and the rainy season will come at the end of this August,” he explained.
