REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A member of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) from PKS, Sukamta, said the 70th Indonesia Independence Day can be a right occasion for appreciating the military force. Indonesia should be stronger in economy, social, cultural, political, defense, and security.
"Indonesia's strong defense is not going to be threats for other nations. It makes Indonesia be respected by other nations and contributes to maintaining world peace,” he said, Thursday (6/8).
The spirit of 70th Indonesia independence day should be reflected by developing the Indonesia military forces. Global Fire Power Military in 2015 ranked Indonesia military force as 12th best in the world, with Power Index 0.5231.
He hopes that in 2016, Indonesia will be in top 10 of military force in the world and in 2024 can be in top five.
"It is necessary to increase the human resources, defense equipment, and the budget. We have 400 thousands army who have great capabilities," he said.
Over the years, he continued, the budget for updating defense equipment keeps increasing. "We also encourage that the budget has to be increased for subsequent years," he added.
If the quality and quantity of the human resources, defense equipment, and the budget can be increased, then Indonesia will be in top 5 of the best military force in the world.
