REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- One of the efforts made by the local government of Riau Islands to cope with droughts is converting sea water into fresh water.
“We are currently testing,” said the Chairman of Committe III Regional Representatives Council (DPD), Hardi Selamat Hood, Monda (3/8). The test was conducted by Batam Authority (OB).
According to the senator of the Riau Islands, an attempt was made because the Seiharapan and Nongsa Dam started decreasing its water volume significantly. In fact, all Riau Islands’ people rely on water from the dams.
He considered an engineering technology by converting sea water into fresh water. It is a step that is quite right.
"Innovative, because the Riau Islands has sea water resources that can be benefits," he said.
