REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- New Indonesian military (TNI)chief Gen.Gatot Nurmantyo launched big military shake up replacing tens of senior officers holding strategic positions in the three forces.
Information made available for Antara from the TNI information center said 84 seniors officers including 48 from the army, 12 from the navy and 24 from the air force were transferred to new posts.
Those from the army included deputy chief of staff Let.Gen.Muhammad Munir, to be replaced by Maj.Gen.Moh Erwin Syafitri former chief of the TNI intelligence service and chief of the Army Strategic Command Let.Gen.Mulyono , who has been promoted to army chief of staff, was replaced by Maj.Gen.Edy Rahmayadi, former North Sumatra military command.
Also replaced was Maj.Gen.Doni Munardo, the commander of the army crack troop (Kopassus). Maj.Gen. Doni, was given a new post as chief of Maluku military command, was replaced by Brig.Gen.Muhammad Herindra,formerly chief of staff of the West Java military command.
Those from navy included commander of the navy development and education command Rear Adm.INGN Aryatmaja was given new post as special staff of the navy chief of staff and marine Brig.Gen. was given new job as special staff of the navy chief of staff.
From the air force, Air Vice Marshal Tri Budi Satriyo and Air Vice Marshal Sumarno were given new josb as special staff of the air force chief of staff.
TNI chief spokesman Col.Berlin G said the transfers were to optimize development of the TNI organization in facing heavier duty in the future.
"TNI has to improve its performance through transfer of duty and promotions at the strategic levels," he said.
