REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo assessed the proposed issuance of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) for a single candidate was not too urgent.
The reason, he believed the registration of the local elections will be enlivened by the candidates from political parties and produce more than one pair who will sign up. "There are considerations about perppu proposal, but I am optimistic that there is no (single candidate), if (there is) one or two I feel there’s no need. Perppu is not critical, forcing," said Tjahjo in the Office of BNPP, Ampera, South Jakarta, on Monday, July 27.
He said that because of the 13 regions that potentially there was only one pair of candidates (paslon), began to appear another pair who will submit themselves, which was one of elections in Surabaya, where the candidate of the incumbent was Tri Rismaharini – Wisnu which was previously referred to as the single candidate.
"Other regions followed, Pandeglang, Karawang. Even Surabaya appear anyway, I’m optimistic the 13 regions at least 2 pairs of candidates," he said.
Thus, the potential of the elections postponement in certain regions because there was a single candidate, he thought it did not need to worry about, remembering it was already anticipated by political parties. Even so, Tjahjo also did not close the possibility issued of perppu if there was no way out for regions that were only contained a single candidate.
"Still it could be issued, because if only one candidate pair causing the elections become postponed so yes this is unfair, because there are already intending earnest to register become disadvantaged," he said.
Some regions were called emerging pair of candidates other than the incumbent namely Banyuwangi, Blitar, Kediri, Bantul and South Tangerang.
