REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale shook Aceh province at 12:35 a.m. local time on Wednesday, an official said.
According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the epicenter of the earthquake was some 129 kilometers southwest of Aceh Besar regency. The quake did not raise the threat of a tsunami.
The coordinates of the epicenter of the earthquake are 4.83 degrees northern latitude and 94.50 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 36 kilometers.
Moreover, the quake that jolted the westernmost province of Indonesia was felt by people in Aceh Besar regency and its surrounding areas, as well.
Wahed, a resident of Banda Aceh, stated that he was heading out of a building when the earthquake struck the city at 12:35 a.m. local time.
In addition, a villager of Aceh Besar, Ida, remarked, "The tremors were felt strongly. It is our habit to leave the house with our families as a precaution."
