600 thousands new comers to enter Jakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Transportation Watch (JTW) predicted the number of new comers will rise when the backflow of homecoming (mudik). According to JTW, there were 600 thousands of new comers who will enter Jakarta that the majority coming from Java and Sumatra.

Prediction of new comers, said Andy W Sinaga, head of JTW, based on data on the number of travelers who leave Jakarta on homecoming season in 2015 as many as 6,532,403 people. The numbers of new comers was already taking into account the relatives who were brought.

"The arrival of new comers will lead to social problems and contribute to the increase of traffic jam in Jakarta," Andy said in a press release on Monday, July 20. Most of these new comers, he explained, will work as informal workers such as bajaj drivers, parking attendants, crews of transport and city buses in Jakarta.

JTW predicted the cause of the urban people went to Jakarta was Smart Jakarta Card (KJP) and Health Jakarta Card (KJS). This year the Jakarta provincial government poured funds of around Rp 2.3 trillion for KJP program, while KJS, the provincial government poured funds around of Rp 1.3 trillion.

JTW proposed that the administration immediately anticipate the new comers, with the attendant spread in every bus arrival terminal and train station. Provincial could recruit new comers to work in the service of cleanliness and landscaping or working to support road infrastructure projects and MRT in Jakarta.
