REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEULABOH -- President Joko Widodo shared the spirit of giving in Ramadan by distributing staple food packages to fishermen's families in Lhok Bubon Village, Sama Tiga Sub-district, Aceh Barat District, Aceh, during his official visit on Thursday.
The head of state also handed out student aid packages to the fishermen's children. Thereafter, he continued his visit to Suak Ribee Village where he also distributed free staple food packages to the local residents.
Accompanied by First Lady Iriana, several cabinet members, Aceh Governor Zaini Abdullah, and Aceh Police Chief Inspector General Husein Hamidi, President Widodo arrived in Meulaboh, Nagan Raya District, at 10:30 a.m. local time.
Among the ministers joining the president's entourage were Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil and Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Ferry Mursyidan Baldan.
The president also met the local government officials, Muslim clerics, and community leaders at the Ahlu Sunnah Islamic boarding school in Ujong Baroh Village, Johan Pahlawan Sub-district.
After performing the dzuhur (midday prayer) and holding the meeting, the head of state and his entourage returned to Banda Aceh, the capital city of Aceh Province, to break the fast and hold a "takbiran" (recital of God is great) parade on Thursday evening.
The "takbiran" marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and Muslims in Indonesia and other parts of the world celebrate the Idul Fitri festivity.
President Widodo is scheduled to perform the Idul Fitri prayer along with First Lady Iriana and Muslims in Banda Aceh on Friday morning.
