REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Muhammadiyah encouraged Indonesia and countries of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in order to create an Islamic calendar that could be used by all countries. It was proven by organize the event Indonesia Astrology Colloquium in Muhammadiyah Da'wah Center, Menteng, Jakarta.
"Muslim calendar is very urgent, but that is universal or global, not restricted to national boundaries, Indonesia," said Chairman of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr Din Syamsuddin at the closing ceremony, on Tuesday, July 14.
He explained that the universal calendar as very helpful to solve the people’s problems who were in the local domain. The global Islamic calendar could be made on an annual basis.
It could greatly assist the government because it did not need to make a determination hearing of the beginning of Ramadan, Shawwal or Dzulhijjah. The government was no longer conduct several meetings, it could do one meeting to determine these dates from long ago.
"This is based on the calculation,” said Din.
He explained that it was the time for the Muslims to enter the realm of science. It was consistent with the concept of rational religion. The government only needed to determine how best to define the matter about the date of the determination of the Islamic calendar.
