REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jakarta city administration will soon trace the suppliers of formaldehyde-tainted tofu and noodles, an official stated.

"We will evaluate whether the tofu and noodles from suppliers have the same high concentration levels as we found earlier. If that is the case, the formaldehyde may be added to the foods while on their way from the producers, suppliers, and traders," Head of Jakarta City's Fisheries Affairs, Agriculture and Food Security Agency Darjamuni noted here on Wednesday.

Darjamuni alleged that formaldehyde-tainted tofu and noodles came from suppliers after several traders admitted to have not added any substance to the food products.

The traders too were unaware that the food products contained formaldehyde.

He emphasized that any supplier found guilty of adding formaldehyde to food products will be prosecuted according to the law.

During the impromptu inspection conducted at five markets in the capital, the office found formaldehyde-tainted tofu at Santa market and formaldehyde-tainted noodles at Cipete market.

The office has set a target to free South Jakarta's five traditional markets of formaldehyde-adulterated products by the end of 2015.

The five markets are Mayestik, Santa, Cipete Utara, Lenteng Agung, and Tebet Barat.
