S. Korea gives 5 years visa for Indonesian Tourists

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The South Korean government gave validity period of Multiple Entry Visa for 5 years for Indonesia citizens who visited South Korea. It was the reciprocal of the visa-free license granted by Indonesia government to South Korean citizens.

South Korea ambassador for Indonesian, Cho Taiyoung said that the South Korean government felt grateful for visa-free facility to South Korean citizens which have been active since June 11. However, he explained that currently South Korea could not enact the same thing.

"Unfortunately, Korea has not given the visa-free facility for all Indonesia citizens. But the South Korean government has simplify Indonesian citizens to make visa since April 29," said Cho in Embassy of Republic Korea, Jakarta, on Wednesday night, July 1.

Cho explained, Multiple Entry Visa validity period which previously granted in stages, i.e. 1 year, 3 years and then 5 years, was extended became valid for 5 years. So, Indonesia citizens could use the visa to visit South Korea several times without having to register visa extension within 5 years.

"Also, the passports owner of diplomat or official of Indonesia or Korea have visa-free to visit each country," said Cho.

Korea Tourism Organization Jakarta Office (KTO Jakarta) recorded that after the occurrence of MERS outbreak cases in Korea, foreign tourists who canceled their visit to Korea reached 130,000 people during June. Among which, there were approximately 2,000 Indonesian tourists who canceled a visit to Korea.

Cho said, South Korean government was targeting MERS virus outbreak in South Korea will be completed until the end of July. With visa-free facility, it was expected that there were many Indonesia citizens will be interested to visit South Korea again.
