REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) will listen to the vision and mission of Lieutenant General (ret) Sutiyoso as the chief of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
"Commission I will listen to Sutiyoso's vision and mission to address the contemporary challenges in the fields of cyber and economic intelligence," Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR Hanafi Rais said here on Tuesday.
According to Rais, Commission I would like to hear about Sutiyoso's views on the economic developments in the country and abroad.
"The fit and proper test is a chance for Sutiyoso to change public opinion about cases of human rights violations," he pointed out.
The sole candidate for the post of the BIN chief, Lieutenant General (ret) Sutiyoso will undergo a fit and proper test to be conducted by the DPR in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Sutiyoso said that he will outline his vision and mission as the head of the agency.
"I will strengthen Indonesia's cyber intelligence because it is a weak point. Indonesia also needs advanced equipment to compete with foreign intelligence services," he observed.
Earlier, Chief of the State Intelligence Agency Lieutenant General Marciano Norman had expressed his confidence in Sutiyoso's ability to lead and strengthen the institution.
"I have no doubt in Sutiyoso's ability to lead the institution," Norman had emphasized.
Under Sutiyoso's leadership, he added, the agency will develop and become more advanced.
He respected the president's prerogative to determine the candidate for the post of the BIN chief to replace him.
Norman also pointed out that the BIN is bound to face a few challenges, such as the implementation of the simultaneous regional head elections (pilkada), the economic recovery, and radical movements.
"The BIN should be able to handle the challenges in the future," he remarked.
With regard to the economy, Norman urged all parties to cooperate to address the country's economic slowdown.
"Indonesia and its neighboring countries should work together to tackle the problem of radical movements," he stressed.
The current BIN chief further noted that Indonesia should not be the target of any other country and that the community should support the government in its efforts to combat radical movements.
On the occasion, President Joko Widodo also received Commander of the TNI General Moeldoko and Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi.
In addition, General Moeldoko recommended Major General (ret) Hendardji Soepandji to lead the KPK.
"We recommend him to lead the KPK," Moeldoko said.
Moreover, Chief of the Presidential Office Luhut Binsar Panjaitan had stated that he believes Lieutenant General (ret) Sutiyoso was capable of serving as the chief of the State Intelligence Agency.
"I know him very well. I think he can perform the duties of the State Intelligence Agency chief properly," Panjaitan said.
The selection of Lieutenant General (ret) Sutiyoso as the candidate for the position is the president's prerogative, he added.
"There is no issue with it. The president took various factors into consideration before selecting Lieutenant General (ret) Sutiyoso," he affirmed.
