REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government of Indonesia signed the Articles of Agreement of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday.

This was revealed in a press statement released by the Foreign Affairs Ministry here on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Indonesia was represented by Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, who, along with representatives from 49 prospective founding member countries, signed the AIIB articles.

Indonesia's participation as a prospective founding member of the AIIB reflects its ability to support the government's development programs, particularly in the infrastructure sector.

However, of the 57 prospective founding member states, seven have yet to sign the Articles of Agreement. They have till the end of the year to sign the deal.

The signing of the Articles of Agreement of the AIIB on Monday was a historic moment for the Asian region as it is for the first time that Asian countries have established a bank to provide long-term financial assistance for infrastructural development in the region.
