NTB fishermen urged not to catch protected sharks

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM -- Head of Marine and Fisheries of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Aminullah urged the fishermen, particularly in the Outer Cape, East Lombok to not catch the Whale Sharks and Manta Rays. Because, both species protected by the rules.

"The rule is that both sharks should not be caught. We've been socialized to all businessmen there," he told reporters in Mataram, on Sunday, June 28.

He said, for people who were caught getting the sharks, it should be released again. Because, he admitted uncomfortable with the views of the international community said that Outer Cape was a slaughter place of sharks.

According to him, it continued to intensify socialization and encourage the understanding that arresting the two types of sharks was prohibited.

Previously, some time ago, two collectors Manta Rays and whale sharks successfully secured by the investigation team at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in Outer Cape, East Lombok. Both were known to be selling the Whale Sharks and Manta Rays to entrepreneurs in Surabaya more than 100 kg.
