REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- South Sumatra Governor H Alex Noerdin said he was optimistic that construction of toll road project in the province would be carried out as scheduled.

Land clearing would not pose as bottleneck as there is already regulation to cope with such problem, Alex said here on Wednesday.

He acknowledged there were still negotiations on compensation for land but it is progressing and agreement would be reached.

He said the provincial administration has worked hard to get the project underway as soon as possible.

The project is important for the economic development in the regions, he said, adding the people would gain from the project.

The groundbreaking of 22 kilometer toll road project has been inaugurated to mark the start of work and since then the provincial administration has continued to focus attention to getting the project completed as scheduled, he added.

Construction of the toll road project in South Sumatra would also means the start of construction of Trans Sumatra toll road that would links the southern and northern ends of Sumatra spanning a distance of more than 1,500 kilometers.

The government has made the Trans Sumatra toll road a priority as it is vital for the development of economy in the country's second most populous island.

The South Sumatra provincial administration, therefore, is aware of the importance of smoothness of implementation of the project in the province, the governor said.

He said the project is so important that it needs the support from all especially from the people.

The central government also has shown serious attention to the implementation of the projects, which has been long in the pipeline since the previous governments.

Alex said the process would take long time but he said he is optimistic the implementation would be carried out as expected.

"No need to be worried to much," he said.

President Joko Widodo laid the corner stone for the Palembang - Indralaya toll road project early May at the same time with the groundbreaking ceremony in Lampung.
