REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- West Java's exports in May 2015 fell 5.24 percent to US$2.10 billion from US$2.22 billion a month earlier due to a decline in the prices of commodities.

The export of industrial goods, including machines, electronics, textiles and textile products, continued to dominate the province's exports, Head of the Distribution Statistics Division of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Office in West Java Doddy Gunawan Yusuf said here on Saturday.

Cumulatively, the province's exports from January to May 2015 fell 4.13 percent as compared to that in the same period last year.

"The decline in exports was caused by declining commodity prices and the sluggish global economy," he pointed out.

Overall, oil and gas exports rose 52.93 percent and non-oil/gas exports fell 6.56 percent.

Also, the province's exports were mostly sent to the European Union, East Asia and the United States.

According to the BPS, Indonesia's exports in May 2015 reached US$12.56 billion, a decline of 4.11 percent from that a month earlier.

Chairman of the West Java chapter of the Indonesian Businessmen's Association (Apindo) Deddy Widjaya stated that the drop in exports can be attributed to the global economy, which has yet to fully recover.

"It is true that exports declined. But hopefully, the condition will improve in the future," Widjaya remarked.

In addition, exports of textiles and textile products also dropped, with large stocks in several industries due to low absorption by overseas markets, he noted.
