REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA –- Caretaker of Deputy Chairman of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Johan Budi affirmed that the commission never abusing power in executing its authority, including wiretapping. In fact, Johan challenged people who thought like that to show the evidences.

"Show me that KPK ever did abuse of power. Did ever we did abuse of power about wiretapping?" said Johan in the parliament complex, Jakarta, on Thursday, June 18.

Johan explained the state agency that has the authority to tap not only KPK, but also the police, the prosecutor and several other institutions. KPK, according to him, being the only institution which the audited wiretapping process.

"So the wiretapping is not KPK monopoly. And a few years ago the KPK’s wiretapping process audited. Did you ever hear KPK audited, other institutions ever heard or not?" he said.

Johan claimed that he have not read the draft bill of KPK. According to him, from reports in the media that he saw, there was an impression that the revision aimed to reduce KPK’s authority.

"The highlight was the reduction about wiretapping authority and prosecution. If the authority of KPK is reduced, it is not strengthening the commission," said Johan.
