REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia will officially rejoin the full membership of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in November 2015.
"Now we ask to revoke its suspension. November we will officially become a member again," said the Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) IGN Wiratamaja Puja after attending a meeting with Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR), on Tuesday, June 9.
Wiratmaja said Indonesia has no problem to join OPEC again as one of the founders of the organization..
He also said that Indonesia proposed membership meeting of Indonesia will be held in Bali. He also expressed the Secretary General of OPEC has been interested about it.
"We proposed [the meeting] to be held in Bali, the Secretary General wanted it, but the others we do not know," he said.
For information, some OPEC member states have welcomed the intention of Indonesia to become a member of OPEC again.
It was announced by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Sudirman Said while attending "6th International Seminar on the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)" held on 3-4 June 2015 at the Hofburg Palace, Vienna, Austria.
