REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The one-month long Surabaya Shopping Festival (SSF) 2015 which ended on May 31 clinched almost Rp12 trillion worth of transactions.
The festival which is the eighth of its kind attracted shopaholics not only from Indonesian cities but also from foreign countries, Secretary General of the Shopping Center Association (APPBI) of East Java Chapter Ari Praja said during the closing ceremony of SSF 2015 at Grand City Surabaya on Sunday.
The turnover represents a 30 percent increase compared with the previous year.
Ari said Surabaya residents' positive responses to the festival were reflected by the higher number of lucky draw coupons issued by eight malls in the city.
The agenda of the festival was able to push the economic growth of Surabaya in particular and East Java in general amidst the national economic slowdown, he said.
"We express gratitude and appreciation to the Surabaya city government. We hope this harmonious cooperation will continue," he said.
In her address to the closing ceremony of the SSF 2015, Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said she was delighted to see the city residents' good response to the event.
The good response suggested that the economic growth of Surabaya is better than that of other major cities in Indonesia, she said.
"I am very glad to see the SSF turnover increasing. I say congratulations. The festival attracted not only Surabaya residents but also from other cities in Indonesia and foreign countries. This suggests that the Surabaya economy remains stable," she said.
